About Us

Formerly known as Alaythia Fellowship, Wilderness Formation has existed for over 30 years and began in the North Cascades of Washington in the form of a Bible school and outdoor ministry.
After 20 years of dormancy, the desire to continue the mission of “demonstrating the truth of Jesus Christ through the avenues of teaching and living” is being fulfilled by “facilitating encounters with Christ in the wilderness.”

Our Vision

Wilderness Formation equips churches and faith communities to carry out local, contextual wilderness ministry for the purpose of discipleship in the way of Jesus Christ through consultation, training, and collaboration.

Our Theology

Christ is Central: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” John 8:32

Holy Spirit Led: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16

Creation Carries Inherent Value: Humans are called to steward and learn from creation as a source of God’s revelation. Psalm 19, Genesis 1

Access to Christ and the Outdoors is For All: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”. Micah 6:8

Our Values

  • Demonstrating the reality of God’s truth in daily living

  • Living embodiment of prayer, authenticity, and humility is required for formation

  • Formation is ultimately for the sake of others

  • God’s Earth is valuable, and we are called to care for it

  • God routinely encounters people in the wilderness

We at Wilderness Formation acknowledge that we work and play on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, people who are still here. We express our respect and gratitude for our indigenous siblings and their Elders and for their care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
